Calla Rasmussen

Calla started pulling out her hair at age eight. A natural at BFRB awareness advocacy from the start, she never felt like she needed to hide her disorder, but wanted to educate people who asked her about it. She owes that strength and confidence to her supportive parents, friends and The TLC Foundation for BFRBs. Calla has participated in many small, personal awareness campaigns by speaking in all of her college psychology classes, having a booth in the quad during BFRB awareness week and more recently posting on social media platforms. She graduated from CSU Stanislaus with a BA in Psychology; although she found that being a psychologist was not fitting for her, she finds value in the skills she learned and applies them toward the two BFRB support groups she is involved in.

At the TLC Conference in April 2014, Calla met Noelani Jai, the founder of the HEART support group for kids and teens in Long Beach, CA. Calla attended the HEART group the following month and has been assisting ever since. Noelani has served as a fabulous mentor and friend to Calla, especially in starting her own support group. Calla has been leading her adult BFRB support group in La Verne, CA since August 2014.

Calla has attended the past five TLC Conferences, for a total of seven conferences since she was fifteen years old. She enjoys being involved, having served as a volunteer at three conferences and this year being her second as a presenter.
